Deformation analysis of the vocal folds

چکیده
Videostroboscopy is an examination which yields a permanent record of the moving vocal folds. Thus, it allows the diagnosis of abnormalities which contribute to voice disorders. In this paper, in order to nd and quantify the deformation of the vocal folds in videostroboscopic recordings, an active contours (snakes) based approach is used to delineate the vocal folds in each frame of the videostroboscopic image sequence. After this delineation, a new elastic registration algorithm is used to register the vocal fold contours between adjacent frames of the video sequence. This algorithm is based on the regularization principle and is very e ective when large deformations are present. A least-squares approach is used to t an a ne model to the displacement vectors found by elastic registration. The parameters of this model, rotation, translation, and deformation along two principle axes, quantify the deformation and allow the succinct characterization of the videostroboscopic recordings based on the deformations that occurred. Experiments are shown with synthetic and real videostroboscopic data that demonstrate the value of the proposed approach.

متن کاملDynamic digital image correlation of a dynamic physical model of the vocal folds
An experimental study of the vibratory deformation of the human vocal folds was conducted. Experiments were performed using model vocal folds made of soft silicone rubber, and an air supply system. The model self-oscillated at fundamental frequencies and flow rates typical of the human folds. Time-averaged mass flow rates and transglottal pressures were measured along with the sound pressure up...
متن کاملAnalysis of deformation characteristics of excised human vocal folds by optical stereo-triangulation
for clinical treatment of voice disorders understanding of biomechanics of the voice producing parts in the human larynx is essential. an experimental setup is suggested to determine the deformations of the human vocal folds by inducing defined forces. in a static tensile test forces are applied to the fold of an excised human hemi-larynx. the resulting surface deformations of the tissue are de...
متن کاملVoice Recovery in a Patient with Inhaled Laryngeal Burns
Introduction: Laryngeal burns cause long-term voice disorders due to mucosal changes of the vocal folds. Inhalation injuries affect voice production and result in changes in the mucosal thickness and voice quality. Case Report: A 47-year-old woman was transferred to our department with laryngeal burns sustained during a house fire. On laryngoscopic examination, mucosal waves of both vocal fol...
متن کاملSession 5pSC: Flow, Structure, and Acoustic Interactions During Voice Production II 5pSC4. Quantification of porcine vocal fold geometry in three dimensions
The geometry of the vocal folds, including the internal spatial distribution of the various tissue types, plays a central role in governing vocal fold flow-induced vibration. Quantifying the tissue geometries is therefore important for voice production research. In this presentation, quantitative measures of porcine vocal fold geometry obtained using three different techniques are reported and ...
